These are the human surroundings we are part of, and obey to through social and legal rules. We live “in” a society, as if it was a physical thing, or an area. And probably people often see it as identical to a nation or a country. It can also be virtual, such as an organization of a certain trade, covering large parts of the world, but only for that kind of people.
