Money makes the world go around, the old song goes. It is social capital – a trusted token of saved favors to our fellow citizens, that we can cash in later. When people collect a lot of money, it means that they expect a lot of favors to be done for them, when they want. Reversely, if some have no money at all, they might experience that nobody is going to help them with anything. The concept of money is indeed practical, but it has these shadow sides to it as well.
